MALIIT NA ANG PALDA NI ISAY (Isay's Skirt is getting smaller): A Book Donation Drive

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL!

I say this to my students all the time. As an educator, I have always believed that reading is one of the things that makes a man.  To read is to be able to enlarge one's world.  The more you read, the more learned you become and the more that you are able to contribute to society.

I happened to come across people from Full Life Cube, who introduced me to a book donation campaign spearheaded by Ms. Teresa Gumap-as Dumadag, author of the children's book, Maliit na ang Palda ni Isay. Copies of the book will be donated to the less fortunate children who are in their elementary years.

I was approached to share about the campaign, and since I resonate so much with Teresa's advocacy on reading, education, and reusing and recycling (I also advocate to help save the environment), I decided to write and share about her Back-to-School Book Donation Campaign.

A Children's Book and an Advocacy

The award-winning and Amazon bestselling author Teresa Gumap-as Dumadag continues to inspire and empower young Filipino students through her latest children’s book titled Maliit na ang Palda ni Isay.

This book was launched last year during the 39th Manila International Book Fair. Aside from launching the children’s book, the author also launched an advocacy called Isay Goes to Schools: A Book Donation Drive and Public School Tour.

The book beautifully highlights the importance of education than to have brand new things for school. The book also encourages readers/ students to reuse and recycle.

The story was based on Ms. Teresa Gumap-as Dumadag's life story, it is a story rich in Filipino values, written both in Filipino and English.

The author invites individuals, groups, organizations and companies to help her raise funds so they can donate copies of Maliit na ang Palda ni Isay to public schools, public libraries, and poor communities around the Philippines.

A Vision

“I want to inspire and encourage more children, especially those from the marginalized sectors, through this book.  I want to encourage them to dream and to be brave enough to dream big. I want them to know that dreams can come true with a lot of hard work and grace from God.  I know this is possible because I personally experienced it,” shares Teresa.

Paying it Forward: Values Learned, Values Shared

“This advocacy is my way of paying it forward and my way of helping mold the character of the next generation of Filipinos,” she said.  Teresa's book is a good read both for adults and children.  It is an excellent way to be reminded of the values we have been taught of by our parents.  Now, it is our turn to share these values with the next generation, the book will be a useful tool for that.

The First Book Donation and School Tour

The first book donation with a public school tour and storytelling activity was done at Baclaran Elementary School Unit 1 in October of last year. The event was sponsored by Full Life Cube and Hands-On Parent while Earning. Since the first initiative, donations were also made to other public libraries and also to the Mangyan children in Mindoro.

More funds are still needed to support upcoming book donations and school tours.  For those who would like to support this initiative, you can find more information here.
You may also help spread the word by sharing posters about this book and advocacy from their Facebook pages on your social media accounts.

The children’s book Maliit na ang Palda ni Isay can be purchased at P100 only per copy through the Facebook Pages Full Life Cube and Hands-On Parent while Earning, by purchasing it through the Hands-on Parent while Earning online shop or at National Bookstore branches.

Feel free to send a message to the author through the Facebook Pages mentioned above or e-mail her at teresa@fulllifecube.com to support this life-changing advocacy in any way.
